Haley King

A Different Medium

I wish I were made of clay
to be molded and sculpted
the ways I like, the way you like.
I could change and not be stuck
in this. I would have patience carved into me
and the anger cut away. I could slice off
the jealousy and replace it
with kindness. I would be shaped
the exact way people wish to see
me. The portions of me that are too much
are scraped, leaving all the best
pieces. But I am permanent
cement, cracked and chipped by people
attempting to carve.
