M Quinn

What?

What first walks on four legs
Then two
Then three.
Then walks themselves into a cage
While proudly saying they’re free
What stands amid open doors
Picking a lock
What is stopped by a molehill
While calling a mountain a rock
What gazes into the sky
While leaving their own world unseen
Tells others to imagine
While crushing their dreams
What makes a light that causes the stars to fade
And what builds up to see above the mess they’ve made
But then piles trash there just the same
And the people below, of course take the blame.
What creature, what darkness
Does it have to be said?
What is the monster that lies in the bed

M Quinn is a senior in Publishing at Emerson College in Boston. She has a short publishing history in poetry, but has had essays and short stories appear in various universities’ magazines, regional papers, and genre publications. Recreationally, she studies the different forms of storytelling and tries them out for herself–Table-top role-playing games remain staunchly in first place, but the other rankings are always changing!
