Mary Schinzel

A Valentine for Sappho

Tenth muse and Poetess
In soft leaves and rolling clouds you rest
Beloved forever with the fires of the ancient
And the strong will of a hundred
Classical male statues stand no chance
With a Goddess so skilled in lyrics and the holy dance
With love and power for womankind
Her gifts are of thee true divine
A prowess Aphrodite may hold dear
The winds of angels and celestial heavens adhere; to her touch
Atthis
Lays a soft kiss
Make it a lasting memory
I am in love with thee
And her with her, take us in
An ethereal sapphic origin
Let us love, and hold us close
In your hallowed home of grand Lesbos
