The Healers Ouroboros
I tell her “it is not your job”
But if not me then who?
Who will sweep up the crumbs of inattention
The ones brushed under the carpet of neglect
I beg “but you yourself must breathe”
Everyone knows mothers and children must be saved first
Let me place them in lifejackets and bring them to shore
I scream “look in the mirror please, look at the soft skin of your face
the blonde hair that has not yet turned to autumn
look at the life unlived, the wisdom unformed
the eyes that have yet to see
you are still the child”
